Over the last 25 years, I have researched thousands of individuals, foundations, and companies in the United States and dozens of other countries around the world. I also have identified thousands of major and leadership gift prospects over the last decade with a combined philanthropic capacity of more than US$3 billion.
My specialties include international prospect research and complex research projects – such as those involving extensive family wealth, assets held in more than one country, or due diligence concerns. I provide a depth of analysis that will allow you to understand the best next steps to take with a prospect and how to minimize organizational risk.
I currently provide prospect research services on a flat-fee project basis and on retainer as a fractional prospect researcher.
Project-based prospect research
Sometimes you need occasional prospect research services to move your fundraising program forward. You might not have a researcher on staff, or you might have several researchers who already have full plates and don’t have the time to take on a special project.
For example, school fundraising leaders often need my help once a year getting high-level insights about the incoming class of domestic and international families. I also get requests for US-focused annual events research and one-off deep-dive research projects in advance of leadership solicitation meetings.
Fractional prospect research
In addition to providing research on a project basis, I work on retainer as a fractional prospect researcher. Organizations that use this service tend to be midsized nonprofits that have a growing fundraising program but don’t have the need yet for a full-time prospect researcher. I also work on retainer for larger organizations that need help for a few months to cover a maternity leave or temporary staffing gap.
As a fractional prospect researcher, I handle a full range of prospect research duties for a set number of hours each month.
